HORACE ALLEN OUTDOOR CLASSROOM
The students at Horace Allen School have an exceptional opportunity to play and explore in their environment. With the help and support of Crowsnest Conservation, students at Horace Allen get to enjoy their learning and development in an outdoor classroom. The newest addition to place-based learning at Horace Allen School are the outdoor classroom planter boxes.

ISABELLE SELLON CLASSROOM WITH OUTDOORS
Crowsnest Conservation worked with students at Isabelle Sellon School to apply conceptual understanding with authentic experiences about the people and places they know in their natural environment. Students were given a problem in their outdoor environment and worked with fellow students and community partners to solve, or improve the issue, creating a powerful way to connect learning with student context. All students were given a journal to express their ideas, reflections and curiosities through words and pictures to capture their learning.

WILDED Apple Round-ups
Crowsnest Conservation engages community members across Crowsnest Pass through apple round-up programs where we get to educate the citizens on fruit management, harvesting and wildlife deterrence measurements.
We choose areas where there are previous occurrences of wildlife issues and for those properties who have owners with mobility issues. Participants have the bonus of keeping all that they collect and can turn their labour into an endless variety of preserves and desserts. |
WILDED BEAR SAFETY
Imagine walking down a community trail and you notice a small black bear. The bear, about 50 metres away, is intently feeding on buffalo berries and doesn’t seem to notice you. What would you do, and what should you do in a bear encounter? It is important to be prepared.
Crowsnest Conservation in partnership with BearSmart, Fish and Wildlife, and the Karelian Bear Dogs provide free Bear Safety Training Sessions. Attendees of this event engaged with experience-based learning practices and had the opportunity to gain bear awareness, learn how to identify both species of bears, and to practice what to do during a bear encounter. |
WILDED SPEAKER SERIES
Crowsnest Conservation hosts free public WildED Speaker Series events in our community. Themes for the series are topical and regionally significant to our audiences.
In 2017, following the Kenow Wildfires, we hosted various guest speakers who addressed the past and present conditions that lead to wildfires and what kinds of management practices can help combat future fires in our region. In 2019, Crowsnest Conservation facilitated an evening film and talk. Guest speaker Blair Fyten spoke about wolves in Banff National Park and screened, The Trouble with Wolves, an award-winning documentary about the reintroduction of wolves in Yellowstone. |
